ABOUT US

The mission of P.L.A.Y.S is to provide youth with ASD and their families with equal opportunities to participate in activities and programs. Also, to provide respite and by developing new programs that best suit their changing needs. We are also dedicated to provide Autism Awareness and Advocacy in our community about the issues that meet these families on a daily basis.

Established in July of 2012, by 2 moms with children on the ASD spectrum (Kim & Shannon), when we saw a need in our community; we are a connected group of parents, support workers, professionals and family members who advocate for ourselves and our children. We provide a wide range of programs and activities to youth on the Autism Spectrum. Including qualified respite workers during our activities/programs, clubs, and events.

Autism Awareness in the Community

Our association has been working very hard over the past 7 years to get out in the community to gain more “Autism Awareness” in the North Bay Area.  We have put on many fundraising events such as our Annual Glow in the Dark Golf Tournaments, Open Your Hearts to Autism Gala, Light Up the Sky for Autism Event, Pancake Breakfasts, Spaghetti Dinners, Parent Support Group Meetings, Axe the Stigma on Autism, and our many Youth/Teen Programs.

We have also been in contact with our Municipal, Provincial and Federal Government officials to speak to them about the needs our "Families" face on a daily basis in hopes to improve our service options and autism services in general.  We have spoken to the Minister of Youth in regards to our concerns about the new OAP program (Ontario Autism Program), specifically surrounding the needs of families living in the North.
